OSOMS Membership Categories:

 

Active Membership:  A practicing OMS residing in Ohio.  Active membership dues are $250/year.

  • Fellow:  An individual who is a graduate of a dental school and who has completed an advanced OMS educational program accredited by the ADA.  Must maintain a current dental or medical license in the State of Ohio.  Obtain certification as a diplomate of the American Board of OMS and be a member of the ADA.  Must participate in the anesthesia reevaluation five year requirement.
  • Member:  An individual who is a graduate of a dental school and who has completed an advanced OMS educational program accredited by the ADA.  Must maintain a current dental or medical license in the State of Ohio.  Must participate in the anesthesia reevaluation five year requirement.
  • Affiliate Member:  An OMS who lives and has a practice in another State but who also has an office or practice in Ohio.  
  • Associate Member:  Has all of the requirements for OMS membership but only belongs to the OSOMS and not to AAOMS.
  • Provisional Member:  An OMS who has fulfilled all qualifications for membership except having completed an in-office anesthesia evaluation.  Must have applied for and received verification that he/she has applied for and has been approved for a provisional anesthesia license.  Within one year of obtaining the provisional license, the member must have an in-office evaluation and be approved for an anesthesia permit.  Anesthesia permits are approved by the Ohio State Dental Board.

OSOMS Member benefits:  May attend the annual meeting at the member registration fee.

Dues: $250 per calendar year.

 

Life/Retired Membership:

  • Life Membership:  A Fellow, Member, of Affiliate Member who has completed 30 years of dues paying membership in OSOMS AND has reached the age of 65 OR has paid OSOMS membership dues for 35 years.  Years spent in residency, candidate or retired fellow/member status does not count.  Dues are paid through the year eligible for Life status.
  • Retired:  A member who has completely retired from practicing oral surgery.  Retired members do not pay dues.

OSOMS Member benefits:  May attend the annual meeting at the member registration fee.

Dues: Life and Retired members do not pay annual dues.  Status change application must be submitted.

 

Resident Membership: 

  • Resident Member:  Individuals in training in an American Dental Association (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Ohio automatically become Resident Members.  Resident Members have until April 1 of the year in which they complete training to apply for AAOMS/OSOMS membership so that they may have their names published as Candidates for Membership.
  • Resident Member benefits:  May attend the AAOMS annual meeting with waiver of the general registration fee.

Dues: None

 

Deadline

The annual deadline for submitting an application is March 30, for election to membership at the upcoming year's annual meeting. Applicants submitting late or incomplete forms will maintain Candidate status until the following year's annual meeting. Applications are accepted and processed throughout the year.
