OSOMS Anesthesia Policy:
The Ohio Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OSOMS) in keeping with the current policy of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) shall require reexamination every five years of those members who are performing general anesthesia or deep sedation techniques unless they formally declare by way of the approved document that they do not.
The OSOM shall require each member practicing those anesthesia techniques in Ohio to submit to the prescribed examination at one of the locations that they are performed.
These examinations shall be performed by another member of the OSOMS who has a valid anesthesia certificate issued by the Ohio State Dental Board (OSDB)and is current with the OSOMS’ anesthesia policy.
Examinations may be performed at any time within the year they are due from January 1 to December 31.
Those members not completing their exams in a timely manner will be considered delinquent and must complete the exam by the start of the annual meeting of the OSOMS.
Members not completing their exam by that time will be dropped from membership in the OSOMS and their names will be submitted to the AAOMS as prescribed in their current policy.
Members who have been dropped but then complete their exams are eligible to reapply for membership in the OSOMS again.
It shall be the responsibility of each member completing an anesthesia exam whether it be the initial examination performed by the OSDB or the five year reexamination by a current OSOMS member to submit documentation to the executive secretary of the OSOMS or the chairman of the anesthesia committee of the OSOMS for the purpose of record keeping.
While every attempt will be made to remind those members that their anesthesia evaluation exams are currently due, the responsibility to have their exams completed in a timely manner is ultimately up to the member.
