Interim Reopening Protocol to help guide OMSs

Message from AAOMS President Victor L. Nannini, DDS, FACS:

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have an impact on the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery. In its leadership role, AAOMS has been working nonstop since the pandemic first impacted our ability to practice by keeping members informed, developing guidance and offering additional resources and opportunities. Our decisions are sometimes difficult because this pandemic crisis involves a novel virus with little science to serve as our guidance. In the absence of such, we must rely on expert opinion, federal agency guidance, local and state laws as well as our colleagues in public health.

Today, the Special Committee on Recovery and Response to the Pandemic (SCORRP) – with the support of AAOMS leadership – is introducing the Interim Reopening Protocol for the OMS Office, a document intended to provide you with appropriate protocols for returning to practice. Each OMS must use his or her own professional judgment in line with current government guidance and abide by local and state laws/regulations. Scope of practice, patient demographics, staffing, office facility and geographic location may influence individual decision-making, but all of us must consider each measure and make appropriate decisions that will protect you, your staff and your patients.

AAOMS continues to update its COVID-19 webpage with links to a wide variety of resources meant to assist you as you return to practice. Be sure to visit our infographics page to find resources related to telehealth, financial information, state rules and orders, stress management, PPE maintenance, DEA updates and more.

SCORRP continues to take an active role in pushing information out to our members through our social media accounts dedicated to COVID-19 updates on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Please follow/like each of these accounts to find the latest information.
